FTMO challenge rules explained for us30 traders
The challenge is a rule test with a profit target attached. Phase targets matter, but the daily loss line and total loss line decide whether a US30 trader survives long enough to reach them.
For US30, floating equity is the trap. Normal movement can be a 150-400 point daily range, and a false breakdown around the US open or a Dow-component headline can turn a planned hold into a breach.
US30Signals removes the hardest variable: knowing the planned entry, stop, and target before the candle gets emotional. The trader still owns compliance and sizing.
How us30 signals remove guesswork
Signals do not make a trader disciplined. They make discipline measurable. If the entry, stop, and targets are known, there is no debate about whether the trade is early, late, oversized, or improvised.
Example: a US30Signals US30 long uses a 20-points stop and a 50-points TP2. On a $100K challenge risking 0.5%, the risk budget is $500 and the reward is 2.5R before costs.
The best signal is sometimes the one you skip. If spread is abnormal, if restricted news is close, or if the stop distance forces uncomfortable size, stand down.
US30 specific session strategy
The best funded-account window is 09:30-11:30 ET, then trend continuation into the New York afternoon when breadth stays aligned. Asian-session behavior, rollover, pre-market spread, or thin metals liquidity should be treated according to the instrument, not copied from gold.
The active window is not automatically better just because it moves more. More range means more opportunity and more slippage. If the stop is too tight for the session, the market can be right and still stop you first.
US30Signals session breakdown
Step-by-step challenge plan using us30 signals
Week 1: build a buffer
Start at 0.25% risk. Learn the prop feed: spread, slippage, session behavior, and whether you can follow the signal without touching the stop.
Week 2: increase only if stable
Move toward 0.50% only after clean execution. Never increase risk because the account is behind.
Sessions only
Prioritize US cash open. Trade outside it only if your system was tested for that liquidity.
Daily stop rule
Two full-risk losses and the day is over. The trades after your best setups are gone are the ones that fail accounts.
Position sizing for prop firm rules
The formula is simple: position size = account balance x risk percentage / stop-loss value. The stop-loss value must use your broker's US30 contract specification. Choose risk first, calculate size second, and round down when the answer is close.
| Account | 0.5% risk | If stop is normal | If stop is wide |
|---|---|---|---|
| $25K | $125 | Conservative size | Half size |
| $50K | $250 | Conservative size | Half size |
| $100K | $500 | Base challenge size | Half size |
| $200K | $1,000 | Base challenge size | Half size |
Worked example: your $100K challenge risks 0.5%, so the risk budget is $500. If the planned stop is 20 points, your lot size must make those 20 points equal no more than $500 after spread and commission. That is the trade before the trade.
Challenge mistakes us30 traders make
Most failures are not caused by one bad forecast. They come from oversizing, trading too close to restricted events, misunderstanding floating drawdown, or taking revenge trades after the real setup window has closed.
The instrument-specific account killer is false breakdown around the US open or a Dow-component headline. A stop-loss does not protect the account if the market gaps or if firm rules prohibit the trade action around the event.
Challenge survival checklist
- Never risk more than 0.5% per US30 trade.
- Stop after 2 consecutive losses.
- Respect US cash open instead of forcing dead-session trades.
- Check news and holding rules before entry.
- If you move your stop wider, you have already changed the trade.
Protect the account before trading us30
Risk management is the actual test. Build your own limits below the firm's limits: if the firm allows 5% daily loss, stop at 2% or less.
Risk killers
- Holding through events that can create false breakdown around the US open or a Dow-component headline.
- Doubling size after a loss.
- Ignoring floating P&L and spread expansion.
- Trading poor liquidity with full challenge size.
Without signals
Entry by feel. Stop placement negotiable. TP decided mid-trade. Result: emotional sizing and rule breaches.
With US30Signals
Entry defined. Stop fixed. Targets known. Result: objective position sizing before the order is placed.

How long does it take to pass an FTMO challenge trading us30? +
There is no reliable fixed timeline. A disciplined US30 trader plans for several weeks because forcing the target quickly usually creates daily loss breaches.
What is the minimum risk per trade for US30? +
There is no required minimum. Many challenge traders use 0.25-0.50% risk per trade so a losing streak does not end the account.
Can I use US30Signals signals during my FTMO challenge? +
US30Signals signals can be used as trade ideas with defined entry, stop-loss, and targets, but the trader must place trades personally and follow the current firm rules.
What happens if I hit the daily loss limit? +
If balance or equity breaches the daily loss rule, the challenge is usually failed. Stop well before the hard limit because floating loss, commissions, and spread can count.
Can I hold US30 positions overnight? +
Only if the firm and account type allow it, and only if the position is sized for false breakdown around the US open or a Dow-component headline. Many challenge traders avoid overnight exposure unless it is central to their tested plan.
How do I calculate position size for US30? +
Multiply account balance by risk percentage, then divide that dollar risk by the stop-loss value in points. Always use the prop platform contract specification.
How many us30 trades should I take per day? +
Most disciplined traders limit themselves to two or three high-quality setups and stop after two full-risk losses.
How do signals help with prop firm risk management? +
Signals define entry, stop, and target before emotion enters the trade. That lets the trader calculate size objectively and reject setups that do not fit the rules.
